Review: The Vampire Facial

Happy Halloween! Today’s blog post is a bit scary. So I am writing the content first and then you can choose whether or not you want to scroll down through the pictures. I tried the Vampire Facial at Unit Skin Studioand I’m going to show you the pictures – unedited and raw. Beware!

I like to be 100% real and honest with you. So when I was asked to give the Vampire Facial a try, I had high hopes that it was going to make a huge difference in my skin. The PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatmenthas gained notoriety due to celebrities like Kim Kardashian loving it. It gets its name because your own blood is used for the procedure. Platelets and growth factors found in the blood stimulate stem cells, and PRP contains three to five times as many of these substances as normal blood. The PRP Facial uses platelet rich plasma from your own body to gradually improve the texture, tone and pigment of your skin. It’s quickly becoming one of the favorite non-surgical treatments offered at doctors offices.

The benefits of the PRP facial:  Improves fine lines and deeper wrinkles, reduces acne scars, softens stretch marks, evens skin tone, lightens hyperpigmentation and sun spots, reduces appearance of pores, firms and smooths skin texture, heals scars, reduces broken capillaries and spider veins and brings back the glow for fresher, younger-looking skin.

The procedure takes about an hour and a half (this includes the blood draw and numbing time) and you need to have two-three days downtime. I had mine done on a Thursday afternoon and took it easy over the weekend. You will leave with red skin that will turn pink and subside in 24-72 hours. Mine took the full 72 hours. Do not exercise and do not get sun on your treated area. Once the redness was gone, my skin began to flake and then went into a full peel. At first I wasn’t sure that I would be pleased with the results. But two weeks after I began to see glowing, plump skin. And three weeks after it looked like I had some sort of miracle treatment. And that was after only one treatment. Most facilities recommend them in a series of three to six treatments, depending on what your skin needs.

Now, if you are brave scroll all the way down to see the procedure start to finish in pictures. These were taken with my iPhone.

When you are done, you will look red like a severe sunburn (and it feels like one too).

One week after the treatment. My skin was almost done peeling.

Three weeks after the procedure. My skin is noticeably smoother, clearer and plump!

Don’t be afraid, it really doesn’t hurt. I took two Advil the first night to relieve the pain. It felt like a sunburn. The next day I was fine. If you want to take baby steps, you might consider getting a GloPro. Read this blogpost on the at home microstimulation facial tool and serum.

What do you think? Will you give it a try? xoxo – Tanya
